Jedah Dohma (ジェダ・ドーマ Jeda Dōma) first appeared in Vampire Savior/Darkstalkers 3 along with other newcomers, Lilith, Q-Bee and B.B.Hood who has similarities with the Grim Reaper and the Shinigami. Initially, he was designed to be Belial Jr., but this concept was changed during the development of the game[2]. Jedah also appeared in crossover games such as Capcom Fighting Evolution, Cross Edge, Project × Zone and the universe and comic book of the Marvel vs. Capcom with the crossover series known as Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.
Background
Though over 6,000 years old, Jedah is the youngest of Makai's three High Nobles.
Deeply concerned about Makai’s future, he believed that under the rule of Belial Aensland—the king of the Aensland family and Makai’s true ruler—the realm would fall into chaos. To Jedah, Belial’s acceptance of chaos as destiny made him unfit to lead. Jedah sought the right moment to overthrow Belial and seize control himself.
After the fall of Galnon, the oldest of the High Nobles, Jedah gained a confidant named Ozomu. Although a second-rate noble, Ozomu excelled at deception and strategy. He advised Jedah to use the Gate of Makai, and confident in his power to absorb souls, Jedah instructed Ozomu to break part of the gate’s seal.
When Ozomu approached the gate, he sensed an overwhelming energy. Realizing the power could destroy even Jedah, Ozomu saw an opportunity to betray him and seize control. He tricked Jedah into fully unsealing the gate, then fled to the distant corners of Makai. Overwhelmed by the unleashed energy, Jedah perished, just as Ozomu had planned. Ozomu gathered the remaining power and established himself as Emperor Ozomu, renaming the stronghold Castle Ozomu.
A century later, Jedah was resurrected. Disgusted by the chaos among Makai's nobles and Ozomu's gluttony, he resolved to bring true order by cleansing all souls. For this, he needed a new realm: the Majigen, otherwise called the Demon Dimension.
Jedah returned to Castle Ozomu, now prepared to reclaim his place. Despite not being at full strength, he easily overpowered the cowardly Ozomu. With cold finality, and arms reaching out to him, Jedah whispered, "Ozomu... I am sorry, but please lend me your powers. Your soul will become the foundation of Majigen and will help the future of Makai."
He then drew Ozomu and Castle Ozomu into a dark dimension, marking the beginning of Ozomu’s "salvation." Believing it was his destiny to recreate life, Jedah sought to fuse all souls into a single entity—Shintai, the Fetus of God. To achieve this, he summoned beings with worthy souls to his new realm, intending to merge the Human Realm and Makai under his control.
As planned, the Majigen attracts powerful worthy souls—some viewing Jedah as a threat, others seeking to negotiate with him. During his quest, Jedah encounters a sentient soul he names Lilith, whom he molds into a form resembling Morrigan. However, Lilith's longing for a sense of belonging soon drives her to rebel against him.
Jedah later confronts key Makai nobles, including Demitri Maximoff and Belial’s heiress, Morrigan Aensland. While the outcome of this encounter remains unknown, official sources reveal that Jedah aims to assimilate Morrigan into himself, seeing her as essential to his vision. At the same time, he plans to eliminate Demitri, who mocks Jedah’s idea of "salvation."
Despite his grand ambitions for Makai's rebirth, Jedah senses a greater threat to his plans: Anita, a dormant yet immensely powerful human under the protection of the vampire hunter Donovan Baine.
Though some character endings suggest Jedah's defeat, official sources confirm that he remains at large and unchallenged, still determined to achieve his vision of "salvation" by any means necessary.
Personality
Jedah is a power-hungry and calculating supernatural being, driven by a desire to create a utopia by assimilating all souls into one unified entity. Calm and intelligent, he excels at organizing warfare and strategy, displaying confidence that often verges on arrogance. His singular focus is on achieving his ideal realm, where only one being exists, allowing Makai’s influence to dominate all other realms. While typically composed, Jedah is prone to brief outbursts of rage when his plans are disrupted or opposed, as seen when dealing with Q-bee's betrayal or expressing disdain for Belial's rule. His eyes glow red during these moments of frustration. Jedah also exhibits a sadistic streak, finding amusement in hurting his opponents, reflecting his enjoyment of violence despite his pursuit of absolute order.
Powers and Abilities
As an S-Class Darkstalker—a supernatural elite—Jedah ranks among the most dangerous beings in the Darkstalkers universe.
- Liquid Body: Jedah can reshape his form at will. As a Shinigami, he can absorb souls through contact, gaining strength with each soul absorbed. This ability allows him to influence supernatural beings across realms and manipulate the darkest parts of a person’s soul.
- Space-Time Manipulation: At his peak, Jedah can create a space-time continuum, as seen in the UDON comics. However, this leaves him severely weakened, requiring time to restore his strength.
- Blood Manipulation: Jedah’s blood is highly versatile and dangerous. It can harm humans, supernatural beings, and even influence the nature of vampires. He can weaponize his blood to form jagged blades, dark energy attacks, or his signature buzzsaw by transforming his wings, or ripping out a piece of his wing to create buzzsaw-like blades. Jedah can also pump enemies full of blood, rupturing them from within, or summon massive hands to ensnare and crush foes.
- Body Regeneration and Combat: He can mutilate or sever his body parts without harm, instantly regenerating any lost limbs. Jedah primarily fights using his wings and claws, which can transform into weapons like spinning blades, scythes, or shields. His limbs can extend to strike enemies at a distance, and he is capable of flight by contorting his wings.
- Telepathy and Realm Phasing: Jedah possesses telepathic abilities, allowing him to sense and communicate with beings across different realms. He can also phase between dimensions and detect the energy of humans and supernatural entities on a grand scale.
Weakness
Overusing his energy leaves Jedah increasingly weak, forcing him to recover slowly over time. Additionally, Anita wields a power that could potentially annihilate him, posing a threat as severe as sunlight to a vampire.
About the Shinigami
In Asian mythology, a Shinigami—the Japanese God of Death—is a supernatural entity that guides souls to various realms, often compared to the Grim Reaper in Western traditions.
Jedah’s abilities, such as soul absorption, inter-realm travel, and his obsession with collecting souls, reflect this concept. His character in the Darkstalkers series and UDON Comics serves as their interpretation of the mythical Shinigami, embodying the essence of these deathly beings from lore.

Trivia
- During development, early sketches of Jedah called him Belial Jr. This was changed and Jedah was, in a sense, an enemy of Belial who adopted Morrigan.
- During Demitri's "Midnight Bliss", Jedah is transformed into a woman with long blonde hair.
- During Anakaris' "Pharaoh's Curse", Jedah transforms into a raven carrying a scythe.
- If Sangue Passare is used on Jedah himself (via a mirror match), his belly expands outward and grows until his outie bellybutton shows through his coat before exploding.
- Close inspection of Jedah's sprites reveal that his wings are not actually attached to his body, but instead hover behind. This is apparent especially when he is flying or hovering.
- When electrocuted his sprites show that his skeleton takes the form of what looks like a jumble of letters, runes or strings.
- Jedah's ability to make his eyes glow red is very similar to beings who are under the corruptive influence of Pandora.
- Jedah's Japanese voice actor in the Darkstalkers series is Isshin Chiba, who also voices the Mishima Clan member Jin Kazama in Namco's Soul Calibur and Tekken franchise. Chiba had previously voiced Victor von Gerdenheim and Le Malta in the Vampire Hunter drama CDs, and Kyosuke Kagami from Rival Schools. Chiba is also known for being the voice of Dio Brando in Capcom's arcade fighter JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the Future.
- In the English version of Cross Edge, Jedah is voiced by Travis Willingham, who is also the current English voice actor of Guile in the Street Fighter series and UDON Comics. Willingham was later succeeded by David Kaye (who voiced Pyron in the anime continuity) for Jedah's appearance in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.
- In spite of his collected demeanor and vast power coupled with age, Jedah appears to be fearful of the presence of Anita, the young orphan girl who travels with Donovan. This is most likely because Jedah believes that she's the prophesized savior and eventual queen of the human realm who is yet to awaken.
- In his first game appearance of Vampire Savior: The Lord of Vampire, he went so far as to thank the Darkstalker hunter Donovan for bringing her to to him. Like Donovan himself, Jedah can possibly sense a hidden power buried deep within her; one posing a threat to his future plans for both the Makai and human realm.
- Anita demonstrates her own power in Dee's appearance and ending, where it is implied she killed Dee due to his power becoming a threat in his canon ending, which has destabilized since Night Warriors.
- Jedah's outfit is based off of a Japanese highschool uniform (gakuran), likely to emphasize that his race's physiology and multiple resurrections have kept him looking far younger than he really is. When holding his iconic scythe, he draws inspiration from the western concepts of the grim reaper.
- All of Jedah's attacks are named in Italian. In Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite, he speaks of some terminologies in Italian.
- Jedah's Japanese skill set is notable in the sense that instead of dots as space separators, double hypens are used, to give the move names more archaic flair. Curiously, this double hypen has been mistakenly used in the English translation of his move names. This has since been corrected in his subsequent appearances.
- Unlike most characters, Jedah's special confrontation in Darkstalkers 3 is against himself. The only other instance he appears as a challenger is against Lilith, in an attempt to silence the young succubae's curiosity.
- Jedah's boss battle is against Demitri Maximoff in Darkstalkers 3. During Demitri's dialogue, he mentions how ugly the fetus is, and that he will become the ruler of darkness, showing no concern for other souls, let alone their 'relief'.
- The "Fetus Of God" is also featured in the Namco X series (a world where Namco × Capcom, Project × Zone and Street Fighter × Tekken is implied to take place).
- Jedah's appearance is influenced by Akira Fudo's supernatural form from Go Nagai's Devilman.
- In the Marvel vs. Capcom universe and comic book story known as ''Marvel vs.Capcom: Infinite Horizons(Earth-30847), Jedah appears to know about the vigilante Spider-Man and his friendship with Daredevil and also about their arch-foe the Kingpin and the cosmic villain Thanos, and his alliance with Death, it should be noted however, that Marvel/Disney is U.S. media, as opposed to Capcom being involved with Asian media.
- In Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower, Jedah's stage is renamed as "Creator's Fetus" instead of "Fetus of God." His skill names have also undergone similar renaming as a form of censorship for western releases, to remove potentially blaspheme elements and explicit references to biblical demons and devils. Not surprisingly, these were not applied to the original Japanese and some Asian releases.
- The blood in Jedah's gore-related animations is toned down to flash light purple in some versions of Darkstalkers 3, while other games turn it solid purple.
- Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite also replaces his self-decapitation move into an upward-forward version of his scythe slash, while "Sangue=Passare" is simply removed entirely.
