The 'Dark Force' is a special ability available to each character, first introduced in Vampire Savior

Types[]

Prior to Vampire Savior 2 and Vampire Hunter 2, Dark Force usually corresponds to a special ability (usually a former EX move that enhanced the character's attributes temporarily, such as an install-type super move) unique to each character. These range from character doppelgangers, fireballs, shields, invincibility or flight. Every damage dealt during Dark Force cannot be healed.

The original attribute of the Dark Force was retroactively named as Dark Force Change.

Change[]

The original mechanic of Dark Force, where a character would undergo temporary changes and damage boost. This mode is originally featured in Vampire Savior, and in some Vampire Savior titles, can be selected as Dark Force Change.

Power[]

Introduced in Vampire Hunter 2 and present in Vampire Savior 2 is the so-called Dark Force Power, where it takes two levels of the super meter, but boosts strength and defenses of the character, and alters attributes of the Special, ES and EX moves, making them more powerful. This is made obvious by different color effects when doing ES or EX moves.

Former Dark Force-only moves were spun off into their own independent EX moves, except for Morrigan, Jon Talbain and Victor, who uses it formerly as an EX move in Night Warriors.

Tactics[]

Dark Force should not be underestimated as the mere unhealable damage alone can turn the tide of battle. Some characters will undergo temporary changes while under Dark Force. However, this may have been rather disruptive as it meant a total change of offensive tactics, which may be the reason why Dark Force was redone in the first place in the updated Vampire Savior titles.
